TOURS IN BHUTAN

Bhutan lies hidden in the Himalayas between India and China, and the independent Bhutanese people have largely lived a life of isolation from the world, succeeding in maintaining their cultural and spiritual heritage and traditions.
Bhutan exudes a special charm, a feeling of calm and serenity, which envelopes you the instant you arrive. The people are deeply religious, following the Lamaist form of Buddhism, and monasteries, temples and the unique Bhutanese 'Dzongs' are dotted across the landscape. Nearly three quarters of the land area is covered by forests, and the country has a wealth of biodiversity, with dazzling snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and beautiful rural landscapes.

Tourism in Bhutan, 'The Land of the Thunder Dragon', is a relatively new phenomenon, with the borders opening up for the first time in 1974 at the behest of the then king as part of a radical and long term modernisation program, which is still in motion today.
The government has established a unique 'high value, low volume' approach to tourism, with a minimum nightly cost which makes travel here more expensive than in nearby India & Nepal. However, included in this cost are all your accommodation, meals, transport, sightseeing tours & guides, and entry to any sites you visit. You can arrive in Bhutan with very little money, and have a lavish holiday: your local expenses will only be for drinks, souvenirs, restaurant upgrades and personal items such as laundry. English is widely spoken and is taught universally in schools.
Our tours in Bhutan include a wide range of private and tailor-made itineraries, either concentrating on cultural sightseeing, birdwatching,
trekking, or a combination of these. As we also run holidays in
Nepal,
India and
Thailand, we can combine your tour in Bhutan with either just a couple of days, or a full tour in one of these countries as well (you need to stop off in one of these countries en-route anyway - see our
country guide notes on Druk Air flights for more information).
