ISLAND JUNGLE RESORT, CHITWAN, NEPAL
GPO Box: 2154, Durbar Marg, Kathmandu, Nepal

Note: The following information is provided from our own visits & research, the resort itself, and our clients' experience of using the hotel.

Introduction:
Island Jungle Resort, Chtiwan, NepalThe Island Jungle Resort is a lodge situated in the actual parklands of Chitwan National Park and is the preferred lodge for all of our standard tours to the area. Being situated in the Park itself, staying here does give our travellers the chance to get up close and personal to all the incredible wildlife without having to trek in on jeeps every morning.

Location:

The Lodge is located next to the Rapti River and has its own Elephant stables, which you may be able to visit while staying in the lodge. Elephant washing can also sometimes be arranged! To access the park, we normally drive our clients from either Pokhara or Kathmandu to the local town of Sauraha from where you will be picked up by the Lodge’s employees and then taken the rest of the way by 4 wheel drive. It’s then a short canoe ride over the river to the entrance of the lodge.

Accommodation:

Room at the Island Jungle Resort, Chitwan, NepalAccommodation is usually in either a rustic forest bungalow or chalet with all of these having hot and cold showers.  The rooms are well funished and all bed and bathroom linen is provided.

Being based in the Park itself does mean that electricity is limited and therefore is only run for a few hours each day – usually first thing in the morning and for a few hours in the evening. With this in mind, we do recommend that our clients take a small travel torch with them. Elsewhere, lighting is provided through Kerosene lamps.

All of the accommodation is clean and kept to a good standard with meals served in a separate dining hall.

Bars & Restaurants:
Bar at the Island Jungle Resort, Chitwan, NepalThe Lodge operates on a full-board level so all meals whilst in the Park are included for any of our clients visiting.

There is also a small outside bar area (Tharu bar) that overlooks the Rapti river – perfect for a few sundowners after wildlife spotting all day! The bar offers an array of imported as well as local liquors, beers and soft drinks.

Facilities & Services:
Although the lodge doesn’t have general amenities such as laundry, 24 hr room service or internet access – we feel that the chance to get so close to the wildlife far outweighs this and coupled with the amazing staff working there who will stop at nothing to ensure a pleasant stay for you with as much wildlife seen as possible, makes any stay in the Island Jungle Resort a memorable one.

Other services include: Accommodation at the Island Jungle Resort, Chitwan, Nepal
  • Jungle walks
  • Elephant rides
  • Canoe trips
  • Certain safaris by jeep
